One of the current priorities of the environmental policies of both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is the harmonization of national legislation with the legislation of the European Union. In 2005, Moldova adopted the Moldova – European Action Plan, which defines the key stages and priorities for integration into the European Union, including:
- taking measures to create conditions for managing environmental protection and implementing them;
- taking measures to prevent environmental degradation and ensure rational use of natural resources;
- strengthening cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
In pursuance of the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Programme of Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union,” the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a number of measures aimed at the gradual harmonization of Ukrainian legislation in the area of environmental protection, natural resources and environmental security with relevant EU directives.
