12th International Dniester Conference

On October 27-28, 2022, the International Association of River Keepers “Eco-TIRAS”, in partnership with the State University of Moldova and the NGO “Ecospectrum”, organized and held an international conference “Management of the transboundary Dniester River basin and European integration – step by step”, which was held in the Senate Hall of the Moldova State University. The conference was attended by 80 scientists, practitioners and students from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Lithuania, Greece and Romania. The reports presented at the conference reviewed the measures jointly taken by the riparian states to improve the management of the common Dniester River basin in the course of implementing the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Ukraine on the joint use and protection of border waters (1994) and the Treaty between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on cooperation in the field of protection and sustainable development of the Dniester River basin (2012), documents developed during the activities of the Dniester Basin Commission. The assessment of the state of the ecosystems of the Dniester River basin was carried out, and the factors influencing them were analyzed, as well as the issues of environmental education and upbringing, education for sustainable development, public participation in the development and practical implementation of measures for the environmental rehabilitation of the river and the sustainable conservation and use of its ecosystems and natural resources.
