The GEF project supported the summer Dniester school, which turned 12 this year.
Last week, up to 80 young people from all over the river basin took part in classes on ecology and transboundary river basins, excursions, debates and creative competitions — all around the native Dniester. Pasha Parfeni, a famous singer and Moldova’s representative at Eurovision in 2012, was the headliner of the entertainment part of the event.
Also, students from Chisinau, Tiraspol, and Odesa, together with media representatives, investigated the river from Naslavcea village to the city of Soroca by canoe. In addition to learning about nature of the Dniester, the participants got acquainted with effects of hydropower on river ecosystems .
The Dniester summer school and the canoe expedition are organized annually by the International Environmental Association of River Keepers “ECO-Tiras”.
