The Dniester project team goes ahead with research of tailings storage facilities in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and operational peculiarities of the industrial waste storage facilities.

On July 5, Ukrainian experts acquainted their Moldovan colleagues with the current state of tailings storage facilities of the “Oriana-ECO” enterprise located in the Kalush mining complex.

During the working visit, the Moldovan side was represented by experts from the Agency “Apele Moldovei” and the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and the Environment. Professionals of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration represented Ukraine.

The participants discovered the state of the three tailings storage facilities , as well as visited the Dombrovsky quarry area and the places of formation of karst falls. The group discussed an impact and possible threat of such potentially dangerous objects on the transboundary Dniester.

The trip took place within the framework of the Global Environment Facility project “Enabling transboundary co-operation and integrated water resources management in the Dniester River Basin”, in cooperation with the Dniester Basin Water Resources Authority and the management of Oriana-ECO company.
