SECOND MEETING OF THE DNIESTER COMMISSION

On April 5, a two-day meeting of the Commission for the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Dniester River basin was held in Kyiv.

The event was attended by more than 70 representatives of Moldova and Ukraine, including top officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, heads of relevant institutions in the water management sector of both countries, representatives of non-governmental organizations, science and civil society. The meeting was also attended by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Ambassador Henrik Willadsen, experts from the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

During the meeting, the first results of the work of the working groups of the Commission were presented, which will create the basis for the future Dniester River Basin management plan. The Commission also got acquainted with the results of the transboundary diagnostic analysis developed in the framework of the GEF-funded Dniester project, and discussed the principles of spring reproductive release.
